Draft in progress. This is the founder-voice canonical draft for thonly/publications. The defensive publication specifies the quest layer of the HeartBank® architecture — the surface marketed as B-Quest℠ — and coins its governing terms. It is published at the design stage, before any build, because the surrounding space is heating on two fronts: (1) the location-AI and agentic-itinerary wave — large geospatial models, LLM agents that compose real-world activity sequences, and the gamification platforms that own the "real-world quest" vocabulary — is exactly where a platform patent could enclose the combination claimed here (in particular the compile-not-invent generation rule of claim 1 and the reward-path separation of claim 2); and (2) the drone-response wave (public-safety first-responder programs, home security drones) is where claim 8's inversion — the witness the protected person owns — could be claimed in its surveillance form and foreclose the loyal form. Preamble

This specification is offered to the commons in the spirit of __dāna__ — the gift that asks nothing back. May every free weekend find its neighborhood, and may no one ever be paid in points for love.

The oldest need-compiled route the authors know of is the alms round. Every dawn for twenty-five centuries, a walker has left a monastery and walked a line laid down not by the walker but by the village: this house, then that one, in the order the lane runs. The walker adds only the walking. The route is composed entirely of standing facts — where the households are, who puts rice out — and the walk mints nothing for the one who walks it: whatever arrives in the bowl is given, not earned, and the merit the tradition speaks of accrues to the givers. The walk is choreography over an economy it does not touch.

That is the design this paper specifies, transposed. Modern technology has proven, twice over, that it can put millions of people on real-world routes — and both proofs curdled. The location games proved that a map with objectives moves bodies at civilizational scale, and then paid the bodies in collectibles, badges, and streaks until the walking became grinding. The task marketplaces proved that neighbors will cross the street for each other when software makes the ask legible, and then priced the crossing until neighborliness became gig labor. Between the game that pays you in points and the marketplace that pays you in wages, there is an unoccupied mechanism: the quest that pays you in nothing at all — that compiles the real needs already standing in a neighborhood into a walkable narrative, sends you out under a guardian's watch, gets you home before anyone thanks you, and lets the thanks arrive later, on its own feet, the only way a gift's acknowledgment can honestly travel.

This document specifies that mechanism precisely enough to keep it un-enclosable.

This document constitutes a defensive publication establishing prior art as of 7 July 2026 for the combination of mechanisms described herein. To the author's knowledge, the following are not previously published as a unified mechanism, and any subsequent patent application claiming them should be considered filed against established prior art:

  1. Need-compiled questline generation (the weaver-not-author rule). An automated intermediary composes multi-milestone real-world activity sequences ("questlines") for an individual or household exclusively by selection, sequencing, and narrative connection of pre-existing entries in need-registries — posted help requests, untended commons-stewardship sites, pending gift-courier assignments, dormant-relationship reconnection candidates — and is structurally barred from originating any milestone that does not correspond to a registry entry. Generative capacity is confined to connective narrative, ordering, and pacing. The intermediary is a quest-weaver, never a quest-author: it may decide that the delivery comes before the tree and what story joins them; it may never decide that a need exists.
  1. Reward-path separation ("the quest mints nothing"). Completion of a quest, milestone, or questline confers no points, badges, levels, streaks, leaderboard positions, collectibles, currency, or reputation of any kind. The sole reward channel is the beneficiary-initiated thanks flowing through the economy's ordinary gratitude ledger — the same ledger, at the same weights, as if no quest existed — and any standing or reputation measure the wider system computes is derived from that ordinary reciprocal flow, never from quest-completion counts. The quest layer is pure choreography over an unchanged reward topology: it arranges opportunities to give; it cannot pay for giving.
  1. Retrospective-only patronage surface (bounty-free requests). The help-request schema structurally cannot carry price, bounty, reward-offer, or compensation fields — a request states a need and only a need. Any patronage directed at a helper is post-hoc, voluntary, giver-initiated, and never solicited by the system at request time, acceptance time, or completion time. Combined with the response-side floor (no surface may make money the only possible response), this draws the gift/exchange boundary at both ends of a helping act: the request cannot promise, and the completion cannot demand.
  1. The asynchronous witness reveal (helper-departs-before-thanks). The terminal milestone of a questline is a received chronicle, not a performed act: helpers depart each site before any thanks is given; beneficiary thanks is gathered afterward, mediated by the intermediary, and delivered to the helpers as an after-arriving compilation — the acknowledgment separated from the act in time so that it cannot be extracted, performed for, negotiated, or waited upon at a doorstep. The reveal structurally reproduces, as a product surface, the geometry in which a giver learns what the gift meant only later and from elsewhere.
  1. Safety-companion binding. Every quest leg executes under an AI-initiated journey sentinel with kin pack-watch (as specified in the companion publication The Companion That Notices): the sentinel is armed by default for the leg's duration, silence itself escalates, and the household party is the protection topology. Doorstep and private-premises legs are age-gated adult-only, with household questlines defaulting to public and commons waypoints; requesters are personhood-verified with accountability logging and coarse location withheld until acceptance; memorial and sacred sites are structurally excluded from quest targeting.
  1. Pull-only rationing on a return-to-zero calendar. Questlines are generated only on user-initiated request ("we have a free weekend"). The system carries no push solicitation, no daily quest, no streak, and no lapse-shaming of any kind; the only calendar structure is a return-to-zero cadence — the architecture's annual reset, and a lunar occasion cadence proposed here for natural questing occasions — that resets rather than accumulates, so that time pressure can never be manufactured from an accumulating counter.
  1. The internalization readout (self-eliminating instrumentation). The quest layer's measured objective is the rate of unquested repeat prosocial acts among past participants — giving that continues after and without the scaffold — held as a private mirror for the participants and an aggregate design signal for the operator, never a public score. The layer is instrumented to detect its own obsolescence, and its success condition is defined as the growth of activity it can no longer claim.
  1. The event-gated aerial witness responder with master-owned footage. A gift-courier aerial fleet whose units may divert to a personal-safety alarm as witness-beacons — arriving light, siren, spoken presence, and live stream to the protected person's kin pack — bound by five structural rules: flight is event-gated only (a unit flies to an alarm; no patrol mode exists in the software); footage belongs to the protected person's pack (end-to-end encrypted to the pack, never retained by the operating institution, purged on stand-down); the unit is represented as witness, never rescuer (deterrence-by-observation, with human response remaining the rescue); flight terminates only at the authenticated alarm-raiser's own coordinate (a third party's location can never be flown to by any input); and coverage is never sold as a tier (the alarm's core response remains fleet-independent).

The terms need-compiled questline, quest-weaver, reward-path separation (and its slogan form, the quest that mints nothing), asynchronous witness reveal, pull-only rationing, and event-gated aerial witness are coined here and released with the mechanisms; no trademark claim is made on them as generic mechanism vocabulary.

Abstract

Two mature technology families know how to move people through the physical world: location-based games, which reward movement with acquisition (points, badges, streaks, collections), and task marketplaces, which reward local helping with wages. Both are proofs of an extraordinary capability — software can route human bodies toward chosen coordinates at scale — and both are cautionary tales for a gift economy, because each pays for prosocial movement in a currency that displaces the motive it set out to amplify. This paper specifies a third mechanism. A need-compiled questline is a real-world activity sequence composed by an automated intermediary exclusively from standing entries in need-registries — help requests that carry no bounty, commons sites awaiting stewardship, gift deliveries awaiting a walker, dormant relationships awaiting a call — woven into a narrative arc for a household's freely offered weekend and executed under a safety companion's watch. The mechanism's defining property is what it withholds: quest completion mints nothing — no score, no streak, no standing — and the only reward that exists arrives later, through the economy's ordinary gratitude ledger, from the people actually helped, after the helpers have already gone home. Eight claims specify the generation rule (compile, never invent), the reward-path separation, the bounty-free request surface, the asynchronous witness reveal, the safety binding, the pull-only calendar, the self-eliminating success metric, and an event-gated aerial witness that extends the safety floor skyward without building a patrol. The combination is published defensively, at the design stage, with its limits stated plainly: nothing here has run yet.

1 · Introduction: the mission frame

HeartBank® operates a dual-currency gratitude economy — money-denominated gratitude in the Treasury, time-denominated gratitude in the Chronicle — whose unifying design law is that gratitude must circulate without acquiring a price. The architecture's papers specify that law at the currency layer (the incommensurability-preserving coupler: no exchange window between the two currencies), at the disbursement layer (capacity funded by the institution, disbursed only by human hands), and at the artifact layer (gift tags whose reveal carries witness rather than value). This paper specifies the same law at the activity layer: what happens when the system stops merely recording gifts and starts proposing them — when software composes a Saturday.

The proposal surface is the natural next step for any gratitude economy, and it is also the step at which such an economy most easily destroys itself. The moment a system suggests good deeds, three corruptions stand ready. It can pay for them, in whatever internal currency it controls, and thereby teach its users that kindness is grinding — the acquisition loop. It can price them, letting requesters attach compensation, and thereby become a labor market with sentimental branding — the exchange loop. Or it can invent them, generating plausible-sounding tasks disconnected from real need, and thereby turn kindness into the performance of an itinerary — the make-work loop. Each corruption has a mature industry demonstrating it at scale. The mechanism family specified here is defined negatively against all three, and the negations are the claims: the weaver may not invent (claim 1), the completion may not pay (claim 2), the request may not price (claim 3).

What remains, once those three doors are closed, is the thing the doors were protecting: a way for a household with a free weekend to be guided toward the real needs of its own neighborhood, safely, and to experience the weekend as story rather than errand-list — with the reward arriving in the only form a gift economy recognizes, which is another person's freely given thanks, later, when no one is standing in the doorway waiting for it.

The publication is defensive and early by intent. The vocabulary of "real-world quests" is currently owned by the acquisition-loop industry; the capability of AI-composed real-world itineraries is arriving in the agentic wave; and the two together will be claimed by someone. A CC0 specification with a running prior-art clock is the cheapest way to ensure the gift form of the mechanism — the form that mints nothing — cannot be enclosed by whoever files first on the extractive form.

2 · Background and prior art

The survey is generous by design: a defensive publication is strengthened, not weakened, by crediting everything adjacent.

2.1 · Location games: the movement proof and the acquisition loop

Geocaching (2000) established that coordinates plus a find-log move volunteers across continents. Ingress (2012) and Pokémon GO (2016) industrialized the proof: peer-reviewed activity studies measured population-level increases in daily steps after Pokémon GO's launch, and municipal records measured the crowds. The same studies measured the decay — the activity effect attenuated within about six weeks (Howe et al. 2016; Althoff, White & Horvitz 2016) as the reward loop (catch, collect, level, streak) revealed itself to be the actual product. The loop's real-world externalities are also documented: trespass, traffic incidents, crowds routed into memorial sites (the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park cases of July–August 2016 became the genre's cautionary canon). The genre proved that a map with objectives is one of the most powerful body-routing instruments ever built, and simultaneously proved that when the objective is acquisition, the walking is instrumental and collapses when the numbers stop climbing. The mechanism here keeps the routing power and severs the acquisition loop entirely (claim 2), and inherits the memorial lesson as a structural exclusion rather than a policy apology (claim 5).

2.2 · Task marketplaces, mutual aid, and the time-banking boundary

TaskRabbit (2008) and its successors proved neighbors will help neighbors when the ask is legible — and that pricing the help converts it into gig labor, with the relationship terminating at payment. Nextdoor (2011) proved the neighborhood feed surfaces genuine need alongside genuine fear, and that an unmoderated proximity platform amplifies both. The Buy Nothing Project (2013) and the 2020 mutual-aid wave proved the gift form works at neighborhood scale — freely given, no ledger, no price — while also demonstrating the gift form's discovery problem: needs and givers find each other through overloaded volunteer admins and unstructured feeds. Time banking (Edgar Cahn's time dollars, 1980s onward) is the deepest prior art for structured non-monetary mutual aid, and its boundary condition is instructive: the movement's own literature attributes its survival, legal and cultural, to the non-convertibility of its credits (Cahn 2004), and the drift toward convertibility is where tax authorities and market logic have tended to arrive together. GoodGym (2009; group missions from 2011) runs real community need plus movement with no points; CareCalendar, Lotsa Helping Hands and Tasks for Good coordinate helpers around a named need without a price field. Two patent families cut against the claim as much as for it: geo-location questing (US 11148042 B2 — sequential located tasks with generation and verification, but with rewards) and drone-alarm dispatch applications, both of which carry the acquisition or dispatch grammar this paper excludes. The mechanism here takes from this family the need-registry (structured, verifiable asks) while refusing the price field at the schema level (claim 3) — the request surface is closer to a mutual-aid board than a marketplace, with the discovery problem handed to the weaver instead of a volunteer admin.

2.3 · Kindness apps, challenge mechanics, and the crowding-out literature

The random-acts-of-kindness genre — foundation campaigns, kindness bingo cards, challenge apps, sponsored "do good" streaks — occupies the closest branded territory, and none of the campaigns and apps surveyed here carries the load-bearing properties claimed below: the tasks are generic rather than need-compiled (print the card, anyone, anywhere), completion is typically rewarded with badges or public shares, and no safety architecture exists because no real coordination exists. Scouting merit badges (1910s) are the century-old ancestor: real deeds, acquisition reward — the badge sash is a leaderboard worn on the body — and the movement's own founding literature already cautions that the badge is an encouragement to the pursuit and not its object (Baden-Powell, Aids to Scoutmastership, 1919). The psychology is consistent across the classic studies, each narrower than the claim built on it here: the overjustification effect (Lepper, Greene & Nisbett, 1973; Deci's earlier intrinsic-motivation experiments), motivation crowding theory (Frey & Oberholzer-Gee, 1997), the blood-donation natural experiment (Titmuss, 1970; tested experimentally by Mellström & Johannesson, 2008), and the day-care fine study (Gneezy & Rustichini, 2000) jointly establish that extrinsic reward attached to intrinsically motivated prosociality reliably corrodes the motive — and that the corrosion persists after the reward is withdrawn. This literature is the reason for claim 2, not an afterthought to it: a quest layer that minted even a modest internal currency would be running the documented corrosion experiment on its own users.

2.4 · Procedural quests and the agentic-itinerary wave

Procedural quest generation is mature inside games — radiant-quest systems (Bethesda's Radiant Story, Skyrim, 2011) assemble fetch-and-deliver tasks from world-state templates — and its failure mode is proverbial among players: generated quests feel like generated quests, because the need being serviced is synthetic. The agentic wave (2023–) is now walking the same capability into the physical world: LLM agents compose travel itineraries, date plans, and city days from live data; geospatial platforms are building world-scale models explicitly marketed toward real-world AR experiences. The combination — an AI that composes real-world activity sequences, overlaid on a persistent geospatial layer — is the exact chassis of this paper's mechanism, which is why the generation rule is the first claim rather than the generation capability: what is defensible and worth defending is not that software can weave a questline (it soon will, everywhere) but that a weaver can be structurally confined to real, registry-verified need (claim 1), so that the generated quest never has a synthetic core.

2.5 · Drone response and the surveillance inversion

Zipline (2016 onward) established the aerial fleet in the register of need — blood and medicine to rural clinics, an aviation network whose cargo is care. Public-safety drone-as-first-responder programs (Chula Vista, 2018 onward) report the aircraft first on scene in a majority of the calls it is dispatched to, minutes ahead of ground units, and simultaneously established the civil-liberties objection: the responding aircraft is a government camera, and its footage practices land in evidence rooms. The home-security industry supplied the domestic version — Ring's Always Home Cam, an indoor patrol drone marketed as a security camera with wings — and Ring's Neighbors platform coupled to its police footage-request tool supplied the cautionary governance tale: a privately owned witness network that became an arm of surveillance until public pressure forced the tool's retirement in January 2024. Consumer safety companions (bSafe, Noonlight, Life360) supply the prior art for the alarm-raiser's own device as the escalation source. Claim 8 is this capability with its ownership inverted: the aircraft that responds to a cry for help is the crier's witness — its footage encrypted to the crier's own family, unavailable to the operator, non-existent to any patrol logic, incapable of flying to anyone but the person who called it. The prior art proves the flight; the claim is the loyalty.

2.6 · Witness-gathering, assigned stewardship, and the accompanied walk

Three quieter traditions supply prior art for the mechanism's gentler claims. StoryCorps (2003 onward) is the closest cultural precedent for the mediated gathering of acknowledgment: a facilitated channel through which ordinary people say what another person meant to them, where the facilitation itself — the booth, the trained listener, the ritual frame — is what makes the saying possible, and where the archive's value is witness, never payment. The reveal (claim 4) is a StoryCorps-shaped channel pointed backward at a weekend. Adopt-a-Highway (1985 onward) and the friends-of-parks tradition supply the assigned-stewardship discipline: named parties tending named stretches of commons, where assignment rather than broadcast is precisely what prevents the tragedy of both neglect and swarm — the discipline claim 5's site-capacity rule inherits. And the walking school bus — organized, adult-accompanied group walking as a pedestrian-safety institution — is the party-as-pack floor in its simplest civic form: the safety architecture is the companions. None of the three gamifies, prices, or scores; all three move real bodies toward real needs on real schedules. They are the mechanism's temperament, as the location games are its engine.

3 · The design frame: four failure modes, four separations

The mechanism is easiest to hold as a set of four separations, each severing one documented failure mode at the layer where it forms:

Beneath the four separations run two floors that are not separations but preconditions: the safety binding (claim 5, with claim 8 as its aerial extension) — because the mechanism deliberately routes strangers toward strangers, which is exactly the surface "stranger danger" polices — and the calendar discipline (claim 6), because a rationing failure would re-import the acquisition loop through the back door of the clock (a streak is a badge made of days). Claim 7 is the instrument panel: the system watches for the only outcome that would justify all of the above, which is the mechanism's own obsolescence.

4 · Mechanism I — the weaver, and why it may only compile

Claim 1. The weaver's inputs are need-registries: durable, verifiable stores of standing fact. Five registry classes are specified. The set of registry classes extends only by publication, each new class with its own verification discipline; at any moment the set of admissible milestones is closed to references into the published classes. A reference resolves only against a live entry, checked at composition and again when the leg begins; a withdrawn or expired entry drops the leg. The operator authors no registry entry — every class is populated by the people it concerns:

The weaver selects across registries, sequences the selections into a walkable arc, and writes the connective tissue — the story that makes leg 2 follow leg 1, the pacing that makes a weekend feel like a journey rather than a list. That is the entirety of its generative license. The rule is structural, not aspirational: a milestone is a reference to a registry entry, and the questline data structure has no constructor for an unreferenced milestone.

The rule's necessity is the make-work failure. An unconstrained generator, optimizing for engagement or narrative quality, will invent needs — plausible, symmetrical, well-paced synthetic errands — because invented needs tend to be better-shaped than real ones. The user who senses the synthesis (and users tend to sense it) learns that the quest is a treadmill with scenery, and the deeper corruption lands on the kindness itself: a good deed performed against a manufactured need is rehearsal, not gift, and teaches its performer to treat giving as content. Radiant-quest fatigue is the game industry's fifteen-year record of exactly this curve (Bethesda's Radiant Story system, Skyrim, 2011). The compile-only rule makes the curve unreachable: the weaver can be no more prolific than its neighborhood's actual needs, and a quiet neighborhood yields short questlines — which is the honest outcome, and a signal worth surfacing rather than padding.

A worked example, at the scale the mechanism first runs (a family, one weekend, four legs): Saturday morning, the courier leg — a wrapped gift to a neighbor two streets over, the child carrying, the parent speaking, everyone departing without lingering. Saturday afternoon, the stewardship leg — the street's old tree, litter out, water in, the grandparent telling the tree's story. Sunday morning, the gratitude leg — thanks, in person, to the sweeper the household itself named as owed it, in both currencies or either. Sunday afternoon, the reconnection leg — one voice message to the household's own named drifted tie. The following week: the reveal (§7). Every leg is a registry fact; the weaver contributed the order and the story; the weekend contributed itself.

5 · Mechanism II — the reward topology quest completion cannot touch

Claim 2 is the paper's center of gravity, and it is deliberately a claim about absence. The quest layer writes nothing to any reward surface. There is no quest score. There is no quest history badge. There is no streak, level, rank, completion percentage, or collection. The layer's only persistent artifact is the chronicle (§7), which is a story, not a number — deliberately non-comparable, non-aggregable, and non-displayable as standing.

What the participants can receive is exactly what they could have received had they done the same deeds with no quest running: the beneficiary may thank them — freely, later, in either currency — through the economy's ordinary ledger, and whatever standing measures the wider system computes (in HeartBank®'s vocabulary, the aura) derive from that ordinary reciprocal flow at ordinary weights. The quest layer is invisible to the reward computation. Formally: the reward topology is a function of the gratitude graph, and the quest layer can add edges' occasions but never edges — only the beneficiary's free act adds an edge.

This single separation applies the crowding-out literature's lesson — delete the contingency — and wagers (§11.3) that after-arriving acknowledgment escapes the contingency category. The documented corrosion (§2.3) requires a contingent extrinsic reward — do X, receive Y. The mechanism deletes the contingency, not the reward: helpers frequently will be thanked, perhaps generously, but the thanks is another person's free act, uncertain by construction, and arrives after departure (§7) — which places it psychologically in the category of witnessed meaning rather than earned payment. The design wagers, with the literature rather than against it, that uncertain, freely given, after-arriving acknowledgment amplifies intrinsic motive where certain, scheduled, completion-triggered reward corrodes it.

Claim 3 applies the same separation to the request side, one layer earlier. A bounty field in a help request would price the deed before it happened — TaskRabbit with the wages hidden in the tip — and would immediately stratify the registry (needs with big implied patronage get helpers; plain needs go unserved: a market's allocation, imported into a gift surface). The schema refusal is total: requests carry need-descriptions, logistics, and verification metadata; they cannot carry, reference, or imply compensation, and any patronage a grateful beneficiary later initiates is their own free act on the ordinary ledger, never solicited by the system at any point in the quest lifecycle. The response-side product law already in force across the architecture — no surface may make money the only possible response; thanks is always sufficient — is hereby mirrored on the request side: no surface may let money be promised for a response.

6 · Mechanism III — the asynchronous witness reveal

Claim 4 resolves a subtle inversion that claims 2 and 3 create. If the only reward is the beneficiary's thanks, then the thanks becomes the thing a helper might — humanly, unconsciously — begin to seek: the lingering at the doorstep, the half-second too long after the handoff, the deed performed at someone. A gift economy that stops minting points can accidentally start minting expectation, which is worse, because the pressure lands on the person least able to refuse it: the one who was just helped, standing in their own doorway, socially cornered into gratitude. An extracted thanks is a counterfeit that debases the whole currency.

The mechanism severs the extraction channel with time. The questline's choreography has helpers depart before thanks: the handoff is made, the tree is tended, the words are said, and the party moves to the next leg — the departure itself is scripted as part of the quest's narrative ("the gift is left; the story moves on"), so leaving quickly reads as playing the game well rather than as social abruptness. Thanks is gathered afterward: the mediated thank channel for a leg is created by the leg's completion event and not before, so the system cannot receive a thanks the helpers are still present for; through it the intermediary reaches the beneficiaries — gentle, optional, one-tap, absorbing the ask so that no human has to request acknowledgment for themselves — and whatever arrives is compiled into the questline's terminal milestone: the reveal, delivered to the household days later. The weekend's ending is not the last deed; it is the arrival of what the deeds meant to other people, after the fact, unpurchasable by construction. The departure rule governs thanks the helpers might receive; a thanking leg is itself the gift, and the party still departs before any reply.

The geometry is deliberate and this architecture's oldest. Its founding story is a thank-you letter read aloud at a retirement gathering the letter's author never attended, its meaning reaching the author a year later, by chance, through a third party — gratitude at full force because the giver was absent when it landed. The reveal is that geometry built as a product surface: the giver's absence at the moment of acknowledgment is not a sad accident to be engineered away but the condition under which acknowledgment is known to be real. (The same geometry appears at artifact scale in the companion publication Gift-Tag Time Reveal; this claim is its choreographic form.)

7 · Mechanism IV — the floor: the sentinel on every leg, and the witness with wings

Claim 5. The mechanism deliberately routes people toward strangers — that is its point — and therefore owes them a floor, not a disclaimer. The floor is the safety-companion architecture specified in The Companion That Notices, bound here as a structural precondition rather than an optional install: a quest leg is a sentinel journey. The journey sentinel arms for the leg's route and expected duration; the household party walking together is itself the pack, physically present (the first deployments' entire safety architecture is this: families quest as families); the pack-watch dead-man grammar covers the party's devices; and the leg's completion stands the sentinel down.

Four bindings are specific to the quest surface. Age-gating: doorstep and private-premises legs are adult-only; household questlines default to public and commons waypoints, so a child's quest map is made of parks, trees, markets, and temples, never a stranger's threshold. Requester verification: a help request enters the registry only from a personhood-verified account with accountability logging, and the requester's precise location is withheld until a helper accepts — the luring vector (a fabricated need as bait) is met with the same coarse-until-vetted discipline the companion publication applies to its responder mesh. Sacred exclusion: memorial and sacred sites are structurally excluded from quest targeting — contemplative visits remain free as visits; they are never milestones, because a swarmed memorial is a desecration and no routing engine should be able to produce one. Crowd discipline: the weaver treats site capacity as a constraint (stewardship sites are assigned, not broadcast), inheriting the location-game genre's hardest lesson before rather than after the incident.

Claim 8 extends the floor skyward, and its careful statement matters more than its ambition. The architecture's aerial courier — a gift-delivery fleet in the Zipline register, cargo of care — acquires a second duty: when a protected person's alarm fires (the safety companion's loud escalation), a fleet unit may divert to that person's coordinate as a witness-beacon: arriving light, siren, a spoken presence ("your family can see you; help is coming"), and a live stream encrypted to the person's own kin pack. The deterrence mechanism is the documented one — deterrence by observation is recorded for camera surveillance in some settings (Welsh & Farrington 2009) — and the response-time mechanism is the documented one — a diverted aircraft precedes ground response by minutes. What is claimed is neither; both are prior art. What is claimed is the loyalty structure that makes the capability buildable by a gift institution without building a surveillance product:

  1. Event-gated only. A unit flies to an alarm. There is no patrol mode — not disabled, not policy-restricted: absent from the software. A fleet that cannot patrol cannot be repurposed into one that does without rebuilding it in public.
  2. The footage is the family's. The stream is end-to-end encrypted to the protected person's pack; the institution cannot view, retain, or produce it; on stand-down it is purged from the aircraft. (The companion publication's alarm-never-archive invariant, extended: rescue-never-archive.) Any sharing onward — including with police — is the family's decision from the family's copy.
  3. Witness, never rescuer. The unit is represented, in product and in marketing, as a witness and beacon. Physical rescue is humans' work; a drone sold as a guardian that then hovers while harm proceeds is both a lie and a liability, and the representation rule forecloses the lie at the copy level.
  4. It flies only to its caller. The flight terminates only at the coordinate reported by the authenticated alarm-raiser's own enrolled device — the person whose device and identity chain raised the bark. No input path (not a report, not a tip, not a family member's request) can dispatch a unit to a third party's location: the swatting-with-cameras vector is closed at the dispatch grammar by input, not by a spoofed or stolen device — that residual is stated in §11.6.
  5. Never a tier. Aerial witness capacity is never sold, and the alarm's core response (pack alert, escalation, human responders) is identical with or without fleet coverage — so coverage inequality, which is real and admitted (§9), degrades a bonus, never the floor.

8 · Mechanism V — the calendar and the mirror

Claim 6. The trigger for questline generation is the household's own declaration of a free weekend — the pull. The system never pushes: no "quests are waiting!" notification, no seasonal event pressure, no expiring offer, and above all no streak. The refusal of streaks is not a taste preference but the acquisition-loop analysis applied to time: a streak is a badge made of days, and its documented effect (the streak-preservation anxiety of language apps and snap chains) is the conversion of a chosen practice into a feared obligation — the precise inversion of a gift. The only calendar the quest layer knows is the architecture's existing return-to-zero cadence: a lunar rhythm for natural questing occasions and the annual reset, both of which zero rather than accumulate — there is nothing to lose by resting, and therefore nothing to fear.

Rationing is a feature, not a limitation. A questline is weekend-scaled and occasional by design; the mechanism's value survives on scarcity (a quest is an event; a daily quest is a chore), and its costs — beneficiary attention, site capacity, the neighborly tolerance the whole surface draws on — are commons that daily-cadence gamification would strip-mine within a season.

Claim 7 is the mechanism watching itself. The layer's success metric — designed in, measured from the first pilot — is the unquested repeat rate: among households that quested, how much subsequent giving happens without a quest? Did the family that delivered to a neighbor in June knock again in July on their own? Did the child who thanked the sweeper start greeting her? The metric is held as a private mirror for participants (never a public score, never a comparative rank — the architecture's private-mirror discipline) and as the operator's aggregate design signal. The readout is read, never used: it enters no allocation, eligibility, weaver or ranking computation about any household, and the operator holds it only in aggregate. The mirror renders what continued; it never renders what did not. Its logic is the self-eliminating grammar that governs the wider architecture: the scaffold's purpose is a building that stands without it. A quest layer whose users need more quests every season is failing while flourishing; a quest layer whose neighborhoods gradually stop needing it — because the ties it choreographed now carry weight on their own — is succeeding while shrinking. The instrumentation makes the second outcome measurable, so that the honest report can be written either way.

8.1 · Pre-registered predictions

Following the corpus's practice of dating its wagers before the data exists, three predictions are registered here, 7 July 2026, falsifiable and to be reported in either direction:

9 · The invariants — the constitutional layer

Stated as one-sentence invariants, for implementers and auditors; each traces to a claim.

  1. A milestone is a reference to a verified registry entry; the questline structure has no constructor for an invented milestone. (1)

10 · Adversarial surface

Registry gaming (need-farming). Fake or trivial needs posted to attract helpers — for attention, for company, or for eventual patronage. Deterrence is layered: personhood verification with accountability logging caps sybil posting; the bounty-free schema removes the economic motive for bait; the mediated-thanks channel (the beneficiary must freely acknowledge) acts as the human fraud-filter the wider architecture already uses for self-claimed deeds; and repeat-pattern audit (one identity, many needs, no reciprocation) is a weaver-side signal. Residual risk is honestly nonzero — a lonely person posting soft needs for company is not even clearly abuse, and the design's answer is routing (surface human connection) rather than punishment.

Luring. The fabricated need as bait for a helper's arrival — the surface's gravest vector. Coarse-until-accept location, verification and logging, adult-only doorstep legs, the sentinel armed on every leg, and the party-as-pack default (families quest together) constitute the floor; §11 concedes the floor is a floor, not a guarantee.

Side-channel pricing. Requesters and helpers negotiating compensation off-surface ("the app won't let me offer, but…"). The schema cannot prevent a side conversation; what it prevents is the system teaching the norm. The architecture's position, consistent with the coupler paper: the walls govern the system's surfaces; culture and the surrounding non-fungibility discipline govern the side-deals, and the honest limit is owned.

Performative helping. Questing for the chronicle rather than the neighbor — kindness as content. The chronicle is deliberately non-comparable and private-by-default; there is no public quest feed to perform into; and the reveal's asynchrony denies the performer the doorstep audience. What cannot be designed away: a household can still narrate itself flatteringly to itself. The mechanism accepts this residue; self-flattering practice that nonetheless waters real needs is a tolerable failure mode, and the internalization mirror measures what it matures into.

Drone misuse. Claimed dispatch grammar (13) closes third-party targeting; event-gating (13) closes patrol drift; institution-blind footage (14) closes the operator-surveillance and subpoena-honeypot channels; the false-alarm path inherits the companion architecture's duress and escalation design. The residual — a person triggering their own alarm to summon an aircraft frivolously — is rate-limitable and self-identifying.

Crowding and site harm. Assigned (not broadcast) stewardship, capacity constraints, and the sacred exclusion inherit the location-game genre's documented harms as constraints; the weaver is the throttle the genre lacked.

11 · Honest limits and calibration

This section is deliberately free of story, lineage, and resonance.

  1. n = 0. Nothing specified here has run. The first deployment is designed as a hand-composed questline for a single pilot family — the weaver's function performed manually, the registries standing in as a founder's notebook — and every behavioral wager in this paper (the reveal's emotional force, the pull-trigger's sufficiency, the unquested-repeat effect) is untested at publication. The pre-registered readout for that first weekend: (a) does any beneficiary's thanks arrive un-prompted; (b) does any unquested repeat act occur within the following month.
  2. The separations govern system surfaces, not side-deals. A requester can promise money in a doorway conversation; a helper can linger for thanks despite the choreography. The claims make the system structurally incapable of teaching those norms; they do not make people incapable of practicing them.
  3. The crowding-out wager is a wager. The literature (§2.3) supports deleting contingent reward; it does not prove that mediated after-arriving acknowledgment escapes the contingency category psychologically. If participants come to model the reveal as a scheduled payoff, the corrosion returns by the side door. The internalization mirror (claim 7) is the designed detector for exactly this failure.
  4. The internalization metric is confoundable. Unquested repeat acts are partially unobservable (the best outcome — organic neighborly contact — happens off-ledger by design), and observed rates confound novelty, season, and cohort. The metric indicates direction, not proof, and the architecture's standing rule against pathologizing individuals applies to it in full.
  5. The weaver's neutrality is an alignment dependency. Claim 1 constrains what the weaver may compose from; it cannot constrain why the weaver sequences as it does. A weaver optimized for engagement inside the compile-only rule would still drift (favoring dramatic needs, photogenic sites, retention-shaped arcs). The weaver's objective is governed elsewhere in the architecture (the intermediary's directive canon); this paper's mechanism is necessary and not sufficient.

5b. The weaver is only as true as its registries. A wrongly verified or stale entry becomes a real errand; the verification disciplines live in the registries' own specifications, not here, and claim 1 inherits their failures.

  1. The aerial claim is vision-tier. Claim 8 specifies software invariants for a fleet that does not exist, in a regulatory environment (beyond-visual-line-of-sight, night operations, flight over people) that is among the most restricted in civil aviation and varies by jurisdiction. The five rules are software and product rules the institution keeps, not properties of the aircraft: a compelled disclosure reaches the pack's copy, a compromised or spoofed device reaches the coordinate, and none of the aviation questions (BVLOS, night, over-people, deconfliction, simultaneous alarms) is answered here. The claim is published to keep the loyal form unenclosable, not to imply imminence; the safety floor's core (claim 5) is fleet-independent by invariant 15.
  2. Coverage inequality is real. Where a fleet exists, it will exist unevenly, and aerial witness will reach some neighborhoods years before others. Invariant 15 keeps the inequality confined to a bonus layer; it does not erase it.
  3. AR is optional garnish, not mechanism. The questline pairs naturally with augmented-reality overlays, and none of the eight claims requires or references AR; the mechanism must stand on a paper map. Any deployment in which the overlay becomes load-bearing has left this specification.
  4. The elegance caution. The mechanism dissolves several tensions at once — play without points, help without wages, safety without surveillance — and a design this self-consistent is either deeply right or deeply seductive, which are indistinguishable from inside the design. The coherence is a-priori. The pilot is the arbiter, and this paper commits its authors to publishing the readout in either direction.

12 · Place in the architecture

B-Quest℠ is the renamed and generalized form of the architecture's volunteer walking layer (formerly the courier-rounds surface): the courier round survives as one quest type, and the layer as a whole remains the deliberately human, never-automated tier of the physical fleet — the walking is the product, because the good being produced is humans present for each other. Upstream, the quest layer draws on the Treasury and Chronicle ledgers (whose currencies its rewards travel in, per claim 2), the commons-shrine discipline (whose sites are its waypoints and whose founding gates it inherits), the safety-companion architecture (its floor, per claims 5 and 8), and the personhood layer (its verification substrate). Downstream, it is the architecture's first surface whose face is explicitly play — the register the founding children's game established two decades before any of this was software — and its Phase-2 form (weaving on demand, at scale, by the autonomous intermediary) is governed by that intermediary's directive canon rather than by this specification.

13 · Selected lineage

Tier: lineage — the mechanism survives the deletion of everything in this section.

The alms round (piṇḍacāra) is the specification's ancestor in every load-bearing respect: a route compiled from the community's standing facts rather than the walker's invention; a walk that mints nothing for the walker; acknowledgment that flows as the givers' free act; a fixed, rationed cadence (the round happens at dawn, once, and not again that day); and a hard exclusion zone (the round does not enter where it is not welcome). The alms round's house-to-house discipline is the sapadānacārika practice (Vism II, the dhutaṅga chapter), and its founding instruction is at Mv 8.26. The uposatha observance — the lunar rhythm by which lay practice has been paced for the same twenty-five centuries — is the return-to-zero calendar in its original form: a practice day that recurs and resets, accumulating nothing, losable never. And the oldest entry in the tradition's need-registry is the instruction recorded in the Vinaya's account of the sick monk left untended, where the teacher, having washed the man himself, tells the assembly: whoever would tend to me, let him tend to the sick. A standing need, personhood-verified by the most reliable witness available, awaiting whoever has a free morning — the help request, twenty-five centuries before the schema.

These are offered as lineage, not authority: the mechanism argues from the crowding-out literature and the documented failure modes, and would have to stand on those arguments in a tradition-free room.

14 · Conclusion

The capability this paper rides is arriving with or without it: software that composes real-world days, overlaid on world-scale geospatial models, is the announced roadmap of an industry. The only open question is the grammar it arrives speaking. The acquisition grammar is already fluent — it will offer neighborhoods as game boards and kindness as content, and it will pay. The exchange grammar is already fluent — it will offer neighbors as fulfillment capacity, and it will charge. This paper exists to make a third grammar unenclosable while the window is open: the quest compiled from real need, walked under a guardian's watch, that ends before the thanks begins and mints nothing at all — so that the one reward left standing is the one that was always the point, arriving late, from another person's freedom, the way it came to a teacher's letter-writer a year after the letter, the way it has come up the lane to the bowl every dawn for twenty-five centuries.

The terms are coined and freed with the mechanisms: need-compiled questline, quest-weaver, reward-path separation, the quest that mints nothing, asynchronous witness reveal, pull-only rationing, event-gated aerial witness. May whoever builds this — and the authors intend to — find the fence already gone.
